When the critically acclaimed television series St. Elsewhere ended everyone assumed Ed Begley, Jr. would be a huge star. At least his own TV show if not a movie career. Fortunately for America, Hollywood saw the viability of a Black actor who could play both the Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis roles and Denzel Washington became one of the 5 biggest movie stars in the world. PS- By the way, most folks thought the other candidate with ‘break out star’ potential was Howie Mandel. Uh, yeah.
