Full Moon Fever

The program I intended to watch last night, Real Wolf Kids, was not at
all what I expected. I thought it would be about feral kids that were (at least
metaphorically) raised by wolves. Uh, no. It was about kids that have a
physical disorder that overgrows hair. It was closer to Teen Wolf than The Wild
Child.

Gaping Hole Review

 Warehouse 13- Episode 2

The mystery to be solved involves a criminal ring that robs
banks. They rob banks in order to purchase a catalog of music. The music
catalog is in the same city (Chicago) as the robberies and the criminals. One
of the criminals works in the same building as the catalog.  The criminals do not steal the catalog,
they rob banks instead. So they can buy the catalog. No one asks them why.

For Better or Worse

I didn’t remember his name

No, that’s not true

Mark Linn-Baker

What a funny, unforgettable name

I didn’t care to remember it I suppose

He didn’t matter to me

Really this Mark Linn-Baker was just there

Anchored in my brain

Alongside Dana Plato, Lisa Whelchel, Ken Kercheval, Roxie
Roker

And the rest of the litany of not quite stars

That worked so hard to barely imprint themselves

On my consciousness

The lot of them barely identifiable as individual entities

Except as who they pretended to be

And like me that’s the only important reality

The masks we wear for better or worse

Orbitz supports equality

In a new Orbitz commercial featuring four guys on the golf
course, one of them is wearing a shirt with a Human Rights Campaign logo
visible. There’s nothing overt about the commercial, the guy is not marked as
gay, it’s just part of his outfit to support marriage equality. Good stuff.

Raw Meat

Raw Meat

Baby oil boys club? Instant winner.

I had not guessed Trump as the RAW
buyer. Good stuff.

The World title match is the one I
really wanted to pay attention to this week. They twice teased the Tower of
Doom spot. Super fun. This match was really innovative in terms of using clever
3 way spots. I particularly enjoyed seeing Edge’s Sharpshooter being disrupted
by a sleeper; it was great of JR to fix Grisham’s error as the difference
between a chinlock and a sleeper is vast.

That being said, JR confused me later.
Since when are Triple Threat matches no DQ or countout affairs? And Jeff Hardy
was trying to become World champion for the first time. Huh? What on Earth was
he talking about?

Generally though, JR has been in great
form the last couple weeks, particularly doing a great job of explaining Punk’s
motivation without seeming like an apologist. Grisham and JR are fighting over
small package vs. inside cradle. Not so cute. Funny but not so cute.

So in the last 10 days, CM Punk has
defeated Umaga,  Umaga again in a strap match, won the World title over
Jeff Hardy, defeated IC champ Chris Jericho and now Edge, all clean! What an
incredible difference between this title reign and his first… BTW, Punk’s tape
spelled out MISAWA super classy.

Priceless hasn’t seemed to stick as a
team name for Rhodes and DiBiase so I think More Better should be the new name. The
only folks who’ve said ‘Great American Bash’ are More Better. How odd? Didn’t
someone give them direction on what to say? They were pretty awful but wow, not
to even get the memos. Ish.

Did Vince McMahon refer to someone
else as a pervert?

Both the WWE title and Battle Royale
matches were surprisingly short. Between that and the utter predictability of
RAW’s main event picture, is it any wonder so many folks are turning to
Smackdown instead?

Congrats Lakers

LA just completed an impressive Finals run, putting Orlando into a class of teams (at least temporarily) they don't want to be in: overmatched Finals losers. (New Jersey, Portland, Cleveland and Philly are some recent joiners)

There will be some intriguing questions as LA looks forward: Will they allow DFish to continue as their primary point guard? Will they choose to sign Ariza or Odom? Will Phil Jackson ride off into the sunset Auerbach style?

Orlando has to wonder if this was their only good chance at a title. Next year's Eastern Conference promises to be much stronger and the Magic may not be. They have a roster and a style that work well together but finding a replacement for Turkoglu may prove very difficult and the pressure on Dwight Howard to develop a competent offensive post game will be intense. Stan Van Gundy will also have lots of folks taking shots at him over the summer. There will not be much joy in having reached the Finals although that should be the dominant story for the Magic this year.

Hopefully the Lakers will celebrate (and since LA is so cash strapped, I think the team and Kobe should each pony up $1 mil for the parade; imagine the cascade of goodwill that will generate? That may be the final touch on Kobe's personality rehab of the last two years. Actually that rehab started with the Gasol trade; it's amazing how much NBA history has changed with that one trade, maybe I'll write about that soon.)  After the parade, we'll have wrapped a bow around this season then soon, the draft and the march to a 2010 champ begins anew. I love this game.

TNA, pulling back the curtain

TNA
is wildly inconsistent with their thinking on 'pulling back the curtain'. The
same thing happened when Angle called out Jarrett's kids by name. A couple
weeks ago AJ Styles made a point of talking about missing his wife and kids. In
many respects, the Rough Cut series is entirely about 'pulling back the
curtain'.

They really need to make
some good decisions about how frequently they do this and in what situations.
Refusing to allow fans to suspend their disbelief may be moving them in a
really tough direction. How do you decide what's real and what's fake?
